John Wilkinson took a photo of previous Ted Butler winners prior to this year's event — all dressed in their regal purple shirts.

It was a calm day on the third Friday of September when we played the last 'major' of the year — the Autumn Cup. The weather was calm too. A dozen Musketeers turned out to find the course in immaculate condition. The golf was mixed and the Stableford points ranged from 20 to 35. Dave Coombes came in with the top score and will be presented with the Autumn Cup at the Christmas Dinner. Most of us went to the 'Rabastens' in Tillac for a late lunch which turned out to be even better quality than the golf. We laughed a lot, which is what the Musketeers is all about. Ted Butler Record SmashedThe 2016 version of our longest running 'Major', the Ted Butler International, was held at Château de Pallanne on Friday 16th September. It was a perfect day for golf — nice temperature, not too much wind (apart from after lunch) and the course was playing easier than normal thanks to forward tees and lots of run from the hard fairways. Accordingly there were some good scores posted. (See the results page for details).
The most notable score smashed all previous records for the Ted Butler. Rarely has the winning score been more than 37 points, but this year Steve Paterson went round in two over gross giving an amazing 45 Stableford points. Deservedly he took home the silver plated Chapmpagne cooler. After the golf we sat under the arcades at Pallanne and enjoyed a great quality buffet lunch (see below) where the chef had even treated us to some sashimi. In the evening we all returned to Greg & Véronique's where we had sat outside for the Welcome Party just six days earlier. This time the weather forced us indoors and we sat down to a sumptuous dinner all prepared by Véro. Hats off to the chef! The two Captains, Clive and Mike gave speeches and prizes were awarded and evryone agreed that this year's event had been better than ever with a jovial yet competitive atmosphere and much fun. Goodbyes were said and all looked forward to next year's event in September 2017. |
