A good crowd of Musketeers turned up for a pairs Texas Scramble competition on the last Friday of May. Partners were drawn and a local rule for the day was that players could place anywhere except in hazards. The course was in absolutely superb condition with neatly close-mown fairways and pristine greens under clear blue skies. Scoring was excellent with all teams equalling par or better. Prizes of wine were awarded to the top three teams. Excellent camaraderie over post-match beers followed and a good number stayed for lunch at Pallanne's super new restaurant. All agreed the format was great fun and should be repeated soon.

Twenty-two sat down for lunch in Pallanne's super new restaurant 'Le Racine' on Friday May 1st to celebrate Pete Giles' 60th birthday. They were treated to fillet of garfish followed by braised pork cheeks and finishing with a gooey chocolate concoction containing very few calories. There were speeches and prize presentations but above all there was a terrific atmosphere and a hubbub of lots of friends wining and dining in a pleasant setting.
Out on the course Pete had arranged for a nearest pin prize on each of the par 3s, a nearest the pin in two on the 11th and a longest drive prize on the 18th. David Smith won the nearest the pin on the 2nd, James Gibb was closest on the 4th, Nick Trantom won the prize on the 10th and Clive Robinson was really close on the 16th. Greg Conley won a prize on the 11th where the prize was for nearest the pin with the second shot, and the birthday boy himself won the longest drive. In the main competition 3rd prize went to Rob Jones with 32 points, 2nd prize went to James Gibb with 34 points and the overall winner was John Wilkinson with 35 points. It was a classic Musketeers day with much banter, an overdose of wine, some good golf and some not-so-good golf. A big thank you to Pete for his excellent organisation and generous sponsorship. |
