Of course, if that was not hard enough, players were asked to play in fancy dress hats. Jean-René could hardly see through his Patriotic dreadlocks (see Pictures page) and Phil had a 40cm model golfer balanced on his Panama. Every time he took a shot his hat fell off!
Roy Sherwin bravely parked his brand new car near the Ladies 10th tee, not realising it was not far off the line of any wayward shots between the 17th tee and the 9th green. Thankfully nobody hit his car, and everyone enjoyed his mince pies and mulled wine. To make the day even better, Véronique Conley greeted us in the courtyard with wine and warm apéro nibbles.
The outright winner of the Cross Country, as can be seen on the Results Page, was Douglas Livesey with 27 points leaving him well clear of the field. And the clear winner of the fancy hat competition was Noud Janssen.
In the evening we wined and dined on board the Péniche at Marciac where prizes were handed out and presentations were made. Greg Conley won our most prestigious award, the Player of the Year trophy. And the Committee, on behalf of all the Musketeers very kindly awarded Phil a Life Honorary Membership along with a magnificent framed Certificate of Appreciation. It came as a complete surprise and rendered him speechless (well, almost).
Finally, the splendid bottle of armagnac given by Eric Monnoyeur in appreciation of the Musketeers' Charity Day efforts was opened and passed round on the strict instructions it was to be enjoyed 'nature' and not added to coffee.
Once again, it was a splendid evening to round off another successful year for the Musketeers.
