The weather was hot and humid as the fourteen individual matches got under way. The course is tricky and very tight in places so one needs a good golfing head to play the course well. The first leg at Pallanne had seen the Musketeers take a two point lead into the return leg, but on such a tight and technical course the Musketeeers that are more used to playing the wide fairways of Pallanne were always going to struggle. Struggle they did.
Martyn announced the individual results one by one over lunch and the Barbarians won the match eight points to our six. However, in the tradition of the Ryder Cup the Musketeers retained the trophy as the previous winners. So it is now two wins out of two for the Musketeers. The Barbarians immediately threw down the gauntlet for an early chance of revenge and it was agreed we would travel to Barbet in October. The final date will be announced soon.
We paid 32€ combined green fee and lunch which represented excellent value. After the presentation Martyn Hayward was thanked for his organisation of the event, for his green keeping skills and for being Captain of both the Barbarians and the Musketeers! It should also go on record that Musketeers were grateful for the help of Christelle Hayward and all the other helpers that made the event so successful.
