![]() Friday 11th of April was a special day. Not only was it one of the few fine Fridays for golf at Pallanne this spring, but it was also the day John Wilkinson was born way back in the last century.
John wanted to share his birthday with friends and Musketeers and organised a superb day's golf. Alongside Musketeers we had many of his Pallanne golfing pals, including the Pro Miguel and several ladies. He organised a banger fest from the Porky Boys and Michèle baked some scrumptious cakes—the lemon sponge with a layer of genuine English lemon curd was so good I sneaked a second portion. John provided a magnificent array of prizes including Longest Drive and Nearest the Pin. Roy Sherwin won Nearest the Pin with his tee shot over the water to the 10th and James Gibb won the Longest Drive on the 11th despite being made to play from the back tees. Our Musketeers Captain, Martyn Hayward, won first prize with a most impressive score, but the were prizes for most players — even those who returned unimpressive cards stood a good chance of winning a prize in the tirage au sort. So a huge thank you to John and Michèle for all their hard work in making the day such a success — it was a great way to celebrate a birthday.
