We played a practice round on the Wednesday afternoon when Reg Hole played a blinder coming in just four over par. Lucy came in with 30 points and the rest of us trailed in behind. We were all comfortably settled into the hotel where our rooms overlooked the course and we dined and imbibed well.
The next day the weather was fabulous again, full sun all day. The golf was not so good, although Lucy managed another 30-point round. The non-golfers (the self-styled fab four — Jackie, Sally, Claire and Ruth) went for a walk in the woods and managed to get lost. What should have been an hour turned into three! They soaked away their aches and pains in the Spa area before dinner while some of the low-scoring golfers soaked away their sorrows on the bar terrace.
Friday was the final round and the course seemed even more difficult than before. The top score for the day was 29 points and there were some very low scores to prove how tough the course was. The weather was again fabulous and mushrooms had sprung up everywhere. Phil went mushrooming after the golf and managed to find a kilo of cepes and 92 golf balls — not far short of what he lost over the three days! The fab-four went walking again, this time they lost Jackie who had to be rescued by mushroom hunters.
The final night dinner was preceded by a prize giving. Lucy came top with 59 points and Reg came second so all the prizes went to the Holes. The final dinner was followed by a pool tournament and much laughter.
The entire trip was superbly organised (thank you jean-René) and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all for being such good company.
