This annual golf match is as much about a celebration of international friendship as it is about golfing rivalry. The Musketeers fielded a side of ten including one Belgian and one Scot while Pallanne's side although predominantly French included a Belgian and a German — so a nicely integrated international group of players.
We were lucky with the weather, it was a glorious late October day in full sunshine. The format of the day was chosen by last year's runners-up, Pallanne, who opted for a two-man scramble. Well, not exactly two-man as the Musketeers fielded their star player Lucy!
The handicaps were worked out, and as Bart rightly said at the presentation, there were no quibbles about handicaps this year.
The results were a little one-sided as Pallannne failed to win any of the five matches. That did not dampen the post-match lunch and much fun was enjoyed over an excellent meal by Racine.
The results were: Steve & Lucy beat Jean-Marc and Norbert (6/4); Reg and David Coles were all square with Alain Jardel and Joseph Petulla; Chris Barton and Don Dawson beat Guilluame Monnoyeur and Bart (7/6); Noud and Clive beat Club Captain Roland and Jean Perez (3/2) and John Wilkinson and Phil beat Maurice Bareille and Cyril Alibert (6/4).
The result means that the Musketeers have now won 5 of the eight annual atches. Pallanne vowed to do better next year and as the runners-up they get to choose next year's format.
The Musketeers say "Bring it on!"
