As if tackling Pallanne in December in such an unorthodox manner was not enough, in recent years we have added a fancy dress element. Last year we played in wigs. Clive Robinson won the best wig contest with his impersonation of King Charles II, and as winner he won the right to choose this year's theme. It was skirts! Thanks Clive.
Amazingly all bar one of the players turned up suitably attired — only one failing to recognise his feminine side. It was a motley collection that would have looked ridiculous on any catwalk.
The course began on the 17th tee with the 18th green being a mere par six away. Then we went from the first to the third, the seventh to the 11th, the 12th to the 5th, the 6th to the 12th, the 13th to the 15th, 8th to the 13th and 14th to the 9th. Each player could choose a Power Play — a hole where they could score double Stableford points. Greg Conley birdied his Power Play hole scoring 8 points, and both Mike Rawlings and I scored pars on our Power Play holes scoring 6 points apiece. And it was this three ball that came in with top honours. Mike won the event with 26 points, I came second with 25 and Greg came third with 24.
After the match Mike commented that playing in a skirt was alright apart from there was nowhere to keep his pitch mark repairer and tees — not to mention balls!
