Several old married men have gone on and on about the two girls at Lourdes and how helpful they were — and there were some censored comments too. The matches for the semi-final were between Roger Barton and Clive Robinson and in the other match Jean-Marc Doré took on Rob Jones. Both matches were close and both winners came from behind. Roger Barton was two down with two to play and won the last two holes to force a play-off. The short par-3 18th hole was used and Roger prevailed.
Jean-Marc got off to a great start but Rob (he asked me not to mention how many shots he received, so I won't) had a storming finish and sank a long putt on the 17th to take the match 2/1. So next Friday's final is between Roger Barton and Rob Jones and it will be played at Pallanne.
Roy had kindly sponsored several prizes to entice players outside the matchplay competition. There was a 'Nearest the Pins' prize for the shortest combined distance on any permutation of two of holes 4, 12 and 18. It was a miracle that anyone understood how the prize was to be won, but Fergus did and he duly won with a combined distance of 16m 98cm.
The 'Closest to the Pin after the Second Shot' prize on the 14th went to Martyn Hayward — only 4 metres away.
The Longest Drive prize went to Jean-Marc Doré for his tee shot on the 9th, and the prize for the best net score over 18 holes went to David Coles with a fine 81. In fact Rob Jones beat that best net score, but as there was a one prize rule the prize went to David. (Handicap Secretary take note!)
