After ten minutes or so the rain subsided and by now the nine crazy all-weather golfers made a break for it. It has to be said the conditions were not good. I often have a Barnes Wallis off the surface of one of Pallanne's lakes, but on this day I had a bouncing bomb down the first fairway — there was that much surface water!
Notwithstanding the dire conditions there was some good golf being played and all nine players completed 18 holes — although they did look like drowned rats when they finished. When it came to handing in their cards though, only four were brave enough.
So the results of the very watery May Medal were — in 4th place with a net 84, Roger Barton; in third place with a net 83, Clive Robinson; in 2nd place with a net 80, Rob Jones and the winner with a net 78 was Greg Conley.
Let's hope the weather is kinder for our next competition.
